Man Utd vs PSG stats
Patrick Dorgu – Most touches in opposition box (5)
A player who was signed as a wing-back and played at left-back is emerging as the biggest attacking nuisance under Carrick.
Dorgu started as the left-winger again, and his unique role was on full display again.
He led the press from the front, stretched the defence with his runs, maintained width, and constantly popped up in dangerous positions.
Dorgu will have to improve his skills on the ball to become a more complete attacker, but having the most touches in the opposition box proves he’s got the attacking positioning figured out. That’s half the battle.
Harry Maguire’s throwback game – Recoveries (7)
After the game against Atletico, where United had to play on the front foot, leading to Harry Maguire’s struggles, this was the defender at his very best.
With PSG having more of the ball, Maguire relished playing a throwback game of clearing everything in his area, recovering the ball, and having to defend in front of him.
Seven recoveries of the ball summed up the game for Maguire, who will have a special role to play this season in games where United have their backs to the wall.
Nobody comes out fighting in such a situation quite like Maguire.
Youri Tielemans is a zippy metronome – 100% pass accuracy
Tielemans played just 25 minutes, but his quality was so obvious from minute one that will have Man Utd fans excited.
He completed all 21 of his passes, but this wasn’t a player protecting his accuracy by playing safe sideways passes.
He created once chance, and more than half of his passes were forward, with a few coming under intense pressure.
It was always known that he is a metronome who circulates possession at an elite level, but he also showed vs PSG that he is a zippy passer as well.
So those are the three Man Utd vs PSG stats that tell the picture of the game from United’s perspective.
