Manchester United are interested in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, according to Foot Mercato.
United are still aiming to make one more addition to their midfield following the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
The Mancunian giants appear to be targeting relatively affordable options, such as Camara, who is valued at around €50 million (£43m).
Crystal Palace are understood to have made a ‘concrete offer’ for the Monaco ace, while Nottingham Forest and Liverpool are also interested in the youngster.
Monaco are actively looking to sell Camara and are unlikely to change their £43m asking price.
The 22-year-old can operate centrally or as the deepest midfielder, with his defensive attributes, ball-carrying and passing abilities making him a versatile option.
He was one of the standout performers for Monaco last season, despite the club missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
Camara averaged 2.3 tackles per league game last term, a figure bettered only by Casemiro in the United squad, while his 1.5 interceptions per game were higher than those of any Red Devils player.
Camara, described as ‘one hell of a player‘ by the Guardian, created eight chances, a total bettered only by Fernandes. Also, only the Portugal international averaged more accurate passes per game than he did.
It remains to be seen how concrete United’s interest is in the Senegal-born star, but the club may be better served by signing a taller and more physical midfielder.
The Premier League is becoming increasingly physical, while set-pieces are also playing a more significant role in determining matches.
Fulham’s Sander Berge would be a better fit for Man United than Camara. The Norway international could be available for a reasonable fee and is already proven in the Premier League.
