Youri Tielemans has officially made his first appearance for Manchester United after the 1-1 pre-season draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday evening.

The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder missed the opening three pre-season matches under Michael Carrick after he was on World Cup duty with Belgium this summer.

However, Manchester United manager Michael Carrick was able to hand Youri Tielemans his club debut during the second half against PSG at the Nya Ullevi.

Following Man Utd and PSG’s encounter in Gothenburg, United In Focus has now placed the spotlight on what was learned from Tielemans’ second-half cameo.

Youri Tielemans of Manchester United warms up ahead of the pre-season friendly match between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United at Parc des Princes on August 08, 2026 in Paris, France.

1. Youri Tielemans’ link-up with Bruno Fernandes felt so natural for Man Utd

Youri Tielemans’ immediate Manchester United connection with Bruno Fernandes felt like the pair were long-lost paisanos in the footballing sense.

Bruno Fernandes returned to United first-team action in the same match as Tielemans and was also a second-half substitute from Michael Carrick.

Tielemans and Fernandes found each other seamlessly in United’s approach to the PSG match and the seed has been planted for a blossoming relationship between them.

2. Youri Tielemans’ Man Utd debut proved how much the Red Devils fumbled an early transfer for him

United fans will have a sour taste in their mouths over the fact that the Premier League club waited so long to sign Tielemans after watching his debut.

The Red Devils had been linked with the Belgium international all the way back to his playing spell at Leicester City in 2019 and later in 2023 when he left the Foxes.

Tielemans showed in Sweden on Saturday evening that the Premier League club missed a major opportunity to bring him into the Man Utd midfield much sooner.

3. The injury concerns for Youri Tielemans feel like a drop in the ocean compared to his midfield experience for Man Utd

There had been concerns over United signing Tielemans from Aston Villa after his recent injury record, despite landing him for only a £35m transfer fee last month.

Despite turning 29 years old back in May, Tielemans proved that he still has plenty left in the tank and his midfield quality was evident at the Nya Ullevi.

While he is not a direct replacement for Casemiro, who left Old Trafford this summer, Tielemans’ experience has already filled one important midfield void.

The former Aston Villa and Leicester City star’s influence in the midfield is going to be integral for Michael Carrick in next season’s Champions League competition.
