VJ Edgecombe can only admit that he was completely overwhelmed by emotions during and after his first-ever call with LeBron James as teammates in the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Sixers sensation fondly recalled the special moment in an appearance on Overtime, as James has officially taken his talents to Philadelphia.
“I FaceTimed Bron, I was in disbelief, but I had to act cool," Edgecombe claimed. "I had to act like I’d been there before. I’m on the phone, all cool and stuff. My headphones on, I’m playing the game.
"Had to act all cool, but it’s really Bron. I was really geeking, I ain’t gonna lie.”
LeBron James joins 76ers over other teams amid wild 2026 free agency
In what has been a roller-coaster free-agency development for weeks in this year's offseason, it was formally announced that LeBron James will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers via a two-year, $8 million deal.
James identified Philly as his next destination after eight years in the Los Angeles Lakers, dismissing several more favored teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and the Golden State Warriors.
The intrigue around the blockbuster acquisition of Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey's Klutch Sports ties has strongly influenced James to go to Philly.
Indeed, no other player on the 76ers is more excited to welcome James to the team than VJ Edgecombe, as he views the 41-year-old superstar as his childhood idol.
With a stacked five-man lineup of James, Brown, Edgecombe, Maxey, and Joel Embiid, the 76ers are an undisputed ultimate team to watch for the 2026-27 NBA season.
