The 2026-27 season will mark the beginning of a new chapter for many teams and players alike. Among the players, however, one who demands particular attention is Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro.
After establishing himself as a franchise cornerstone with the Miami Heat over the last two seasons, Tyler Herro was notably traded to the Bucks as part of the landmark deal that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo over to South Beach. Needless to say, Herro wasn’t too pleased with how things played out. Still, he has been accepting of his new role as the face of a rebuilding franchise.
While this is challenging in itself, Herro, who is in the final year of his contract, also faces uncertainty regarding his future with the Bucks. Although there have been no talks on the matter, during a recent interview with the Associated Press’ Steve Megargee, the 26-year-old was not too concerned.
“Milwaukee Bucks guard Tyler Herro said Saturday he isn’t dwelling on his contract status and what that means for his future now that he’s joined his hometown team,” Megargee wrote.
“I’m not really worried about it right now,” Herro shared. “It’s a new slate for me, for the coaches, really for the organization as a whole. I don’t think that needs to be a burden over anyone’s shoulders.”
Tyler Herro is currently expected to earn $33.0 million next season, making him the most expensive player on the Bucks’ roster. While promising, given Milwaukee’s rebuilding outlook, this doesn’t necessarily bode well for a player like Herro.
Considering the sheer quality of talent in next year’s free agent pool, there is every reason to believe the Bucks will want to retain cap flexibility to bolster their roster. Since Tyler Herro’s contract could be an obstacle, Milwaukee may be less inclined to offer him a new deal.
What Are The Expectations For Tyler Herro Next Season?
The 2026-27 season should be an interesting one for the Milwaukee Bucks, primarily because it marks the first year of the post-Antetokounmpo era. With Tyler Herro asserting himself as the only All-Star on the roster, there is no doubt that the team will look to him as a leader.
But what are the expectations for Tyler Herro?
Realistically, given Milwaukee’s roster depth, there is every reason to believe that Herro will be the focal point of the Bucks’ offense. Although he will be closely supported by players like Ryan Rollins, Gary Trent Jr., and potentially even Kyle Kuzma (if he stays with the Bucks), the 26-year-old will likely shoulder a majority of the offensive burden.
In some ways, this could be a positive development. For most of last season, Herro was reduced to a secondary role on offense due to recurring injuries. But given his potential, one could argue that this limited his impact.
Despite these restrictions, Tyler Herro was still impressive last season, posting 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 48.0% from the field and 37.8% from three-point range. For obvious reasons, this was notably less than his averages during his All-Star season, but in a new environment, the guard may have the latitude to thrive again.
Will this result in winning for the Bucks? Probably not. But considering what Tyler Herro is capable of, Milwaukee could be entertaining to watch.
