Kawhi Leonard reportedly believes the NBA's ongoing investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers will be completed before training camp begins.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the seven-time All-Star remains on course to join the Toronto Raptors despite the uncertainty surrounding the league's investigation into allegations of salary-cap circumvention involving Leonard and the Clippers.
The LA Clippers, meanwhile, are prepared to pursue arbitration depending on the severity of any penalties imposed by the NBA once the investigation's complete findings are reviewed.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver said during a mid-July press conference at Summer League in Las Vegas that he could not provide a firm timetable for the investigation.
When asked when he expected clarity on Leonard's situation, Silver said only that he anticipated a resolution "this summer."
Clippers prepared for possible arbitration
The investigation has become an important factor in Leonard's proposed move to Toronto, but the latest indications suggest he still expects the situation to be resolved before training camp.
Los Angeles could challenge the NBA's eventual decision if the organization believes the penalties are excessive.
Sources told Jake Fischer that the Clippers are prepared to go to arbitration depending on what sanctions the league office ultimately orders after reviewing the investigation.
Latest Kawhi Leonard allegations were already part of NBA probe
Investigative journalist Pablo Torre recently reported on Pablo Torre Finds Out that Leonard allegedly had an undisclosed and lucrative sponsorship agreement with Daktronics, the company that supplied the high-tech video board for the Clippers' Intuit Dome.
Torre's reporting also detailed Leonard's ownership stake in a Rhode Island soccer team with indirect ties to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and the franchise.
However, according to Jake Fischer, those developments were not new discoveries for the NBA's investigators.
The Wachtell law firm, which is conducting the league's investigation, had reportedly already been examining both the alleged Daktronics agreement and Leonard's Rhode Island soccer investment before Torre's latest reporting became public.
The Athletic previously reported in mid-July that investigators had looked into "a previously unreported endorsement deal with another company."
Investigation began after Aspiration allegations
The NBA investigation dates back to Torre's reporting in September 2025 regarding Leonard's alleged sponsorship agreement with Aspiration, a green banking company that later went bankrupt.
Those allegations raised questions about whether payments made to Leonard outside his Clippers contract could have been connected to an attempt to circumvent the NBA's salary-cap rules.
The league subsequently hired Wachtell to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
