The Memphis Grizzlies’ rebuild is fully underway following the organization trading Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers. Thankfully for the Grizzlies, they have a potential new franchise cornerstone to debut this upcoming season in Cameron Boozer, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Taking part in a golf tournament this week, ‘The Precision Match,’ hosted by TPC Southwind, Cameron Boozer explained how he can take what he’s learned playing golf, and apply that towards his rookie season with the Grizzlies, as per Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.
“Not every shot is going to be perfect, and when you get frustrated in golf, it just spirals,” Boozer said. “I think it’s something similar in basketball. Like we were talking about when that bug was flying everywhere. Just staying composed and getting on to the next play.”
Boozer is expected to come in and start immediately at power forward for the Grizzlies, forming a towering tandem in the frontcourt with center Zach Edey. Not only did the Grizzlies trade Morant, but they officially kick-started the rebuild when they traded Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz at the deadline this season. Jackson’s departure clears the way for the team’s young post players of the future.
Grizzlies fans got their first look at Boozer during NBA Summer League in both Utah and Las Vegas, as he helped power the team to the championship game. He appeared in a total of eight games averaging 18.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals with splits of 49 percent shooting from the field, 40.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 76 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
