Regardless of what infamously happened that contributed to their painful season finish, the San Antonio Spurs still view De'Aaron Fox as a core piece moving forward.
Per Michael C. Wright of ESPN, the Spurs have maintained their commitment to the star guard amid a rough, yet injury-riddled 2026 postseason.
"After Fox's rough showing in the NBA Finals, team sources said the Spurs remain committed to the veteran, pointing out that San Antonio might have never reached the Finals without the point guard's contributions while playing on a high right ankle sprain," the report indicated.
Spurs still committed to De'Aaron Fox
De'Aaron Fox saw a 2025-26 season filled with ups and downs for the San Antonio Spurs.
After he became the floor general of the Spurs' 62-win season, where he became a two-time All-Star by averaging 18.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds for 72 games, Fox was suddenly hampered by a high right ankle sprain in the second round of the NBA Playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Since then, Fox has struggled and seen his production decline, with his infamous late-game blunder in Game 4 against the New York Knicks highlighting the Spurs’ most humiliating choke job in NBA Finals history.

Many view Fox's four-year, $221.7 million current contract as significantly huge for the team. And with the growing emergence of Dylan Harper, rumblings have further intensified that San Antonio should truly cut its ties with him.
But for now, the franchise appears to be truly devoted to Fox and what he can continue to bring to their success with Victor Wembanyama leading the way.
