LeBron James is still adjusting to an unusual new reality involving his son Bronny James.
After making NBA history by sharing the court with Bronny during their time together with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron joked about the fact that his son can now officially be described as one of his former teammates.
"I have an almost 22-year-old son who is now my former teammate, which is hilarious," LeBron said.
The father-son duo became the first in NBA history to play together when Bronny joined the Lakers, creating one of the most unique chapters of LeBron's legendary career.
Their time as teammates, however, came to an end this offseason following LeBron's departure from Los Angeles and move to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Historic father-son chapter comes to an end
Playing alongside Bronny had long been one of LeBron's most publicized career goals, with the four-time NBA champion previously speaking on numerous occasions about his desire to share an NBA court with his eldest son.
That eventually became reality with the Lakers, giving James another historic achievement during the final stages of his career.
Now playing for different teams, LeBron can look back on the experience from a different perspective – including the unusual realization that his own son belongs on the list of players he can call a former teammate.
For LeBron, who entered the NBA in 2003, the comment also highlights the remarkable longevity of a career that lasted long enough for him to go from teenage phenom to playing alongside his own son at the highest level.
