Champion Knicks to face Sixers, LeBron in NBA opening night tripleheader

The New York Knicks will raise their championship banner on NBA’s Opening Night on Oct. 20, as they face LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers, the NBA announced Tuesday.

The Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons open the tripleheader with an afternoon game on NBC, while the Oklahoma City Thunder play the San Antonio Spurs to close it out in a West Finals rematch.

The Christmas Day schedule was also announced, featuring five games on ABC and ESPN, including James facing his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. Other matchups: Spurs vs. Knicks, Miami Heat vs. Celtics, Thunder vs. Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors.

A pair of doubleheaders on ESPN highlight opening week, including Wolves at Heat and Warriors at Lakers on Oct. 21, and the Cleveland Cavaliers at 76ers, and Nuggets at Thunder on Oct. 22.
