New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson expects plenty of excitement when his team opens the 2026-27 NBA season against the revamped Philadelphia 76ers.
Speaking on 3rd Hour Today, Brunson acknowledged the major changes Philadelphia made during the offseason and expects the Eastern Conference matchup to provide an immediate challenge for New York.
"Fireworks for sure," Brunson said. "I mean, they're going to be electric. They're going to be definitely a team to keep your eye on."
"They reloaded this year. It's going to be a tough test. But we'll be ready."
The game is scheduled for October 20 (Tuesday) at 7:00 PM ET at MSG.
76ers enter season with revamped roster
Brunson's comments come after Philadelphia made major moves this summer, headlined by the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown.
James joined the 76ers after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, while Brown arrived from the Boston Celtics, giving Philadelphia two more established stars alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
The changes have created significant expectations around the Sixers entering the new campaign, something Brunson clearly recognizes ahead of the first meeting between the Eastern Conference rivals.
"It's going to be a tough test," he said. "But we'll be ready."
The Knicks are the reigning 2026 NBA champions, and the get-in price for Knicks-76ers on opening night is reportedly $1,999, the most expensive home opener of all time.
