Portland Trail Blazers (formerly Memphis Grizzlies) superstar Ja Morant is known for being outspoken. Although this doesn’t necessarily translate into having a flamboyant fashion sense, as he’s typically seen donning a tracksuit on the sidelines, Morant pulled off something truly eye-catching.

The Blazers superstar recently celebrated his 27th birthday (August 10). While superstars are known to splurge on such festive occasions, Ja Morant seems to have indulged in a rather extravagant way by investing in a $250,000 GIA-certified chandelier set by VIP celebrity jeweler Jose Mata (Plug Geo & Co.).

A chandelier set (also known as a chandelier tooth) is a cosmetic style that covers an entire tooth or the visible areas in micro-crystals, giving the impression of a glittering chandelier. While this is commonly done for a single tooth, often the canine, Morant took things a step further by covering all his teeth in what appears to be high-end, GIA-certified diamonds.

“Iced out” doesn’t even begin to capture how much Morant spent on his latest fashion statement.

It is important to note that Morant’s set is a fashion accessory commonly known as “grillz” and is not a replacement for his actual teeth. Morant was also seen wearing $30,000 grillz at the 2023 All-Star Weekend, but for obvious reasons, his latest set goes above and beyond that in terms of pure value.

For the most part, spending upwards of $250,000 seems excessive in any context. Still, as the highest-paid player on the Portland Trail Blazers roster, boasting a cap hit of $42.1 million this season and $44.8 million the year after, Morant is more than capable of affording such luxuries.

Ja Morant’s Latest Statement Could Raise Flags For Portland

Although Ja Morant’s latest fashion upgrade is luxurious and is bound to garner attention from the fans, the Portland Trail Blazers may have reason to be concerned about such grand gestures.

Before joining the Trail Blazers this summer, the two-time All-Star had developed a negative reputation for himself around the league. From his antics on social media with guns to his recurring disciplinary issues, Morant did not necessarily project the image of a person with strong character.

Although the 27-year-old was warned on multiple occasions and was even suspended by the NBA, he could not turn things around. Many believe this was a factor in his departure from the Memphis Grizzlies.

In some ways, the move to Portland appeared positive at first glance. While the guard had no intention of leaving Memphis, he showed some inclination to redeem himself by cleaning up his “bad guy” image. To that point, his decision to announce an affordable line of signature shoes also appeared to be a step in the right direction.

Unfortunately, with his latest investment in himself, some within Portland’s front office may begin to doubt his true intentions. Regardless, given how impactful he can be, the Blazers would benefit from prioritizing his health first.
