Luka Doncic has welcomed the Los Angeles Lakers' latest ownership change, making it clear that his focus remains on bringing another NBA championship to the franchise.
Josh Kushner and Bob Iger have agreed to purchase the Lakers from Mark Walter for a record $12.5 billion, less than a year after Walter acquired controlling interest in the franchise at a $10 billion valuation. The deal still requires approval from the NBA Board of Governors.
"Being a Laker means everything to me, and I'm excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA," Doncic wrote.
"I've gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together."

Doncic ready to lead new Lakers era
Doncic's comments carry additional significance as he has become the centerpiece of the Lakers' long-term plans, especially after the departure of LeBron James. Los Angeles acquired Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025, and he later committed to the franchise with a three-year, $165 million extension.
The Slovenian superstar has repeatedly spoken about his desire to win championships in Los Angeles, and his latest message indicates he intends to work closely with the new ownership group as the Lakers enter another significant chapter.
Lakers legend Magic Johnson was similarly enthusiastic about the change, particularly because of his long relationship with Iger.
"Laker fans, you couldn't have two better owners," Johnson wrote. "I've known Bob personally for over 40 years - he has always loved the Lakers and basketball and he will bring championships back to LA."
Kushner and Iger had previously explored pursuing an NBA expansion franchise in Las Vegas before pivoting toward purchasing the Lakers.
