Luka Doncic reveals his true feelings about record-breaking Lakers sale image
The Los Angeles Lakers' ownership shakeup made headlines Wednesday when ESPN reported that Josh Kushner and Bob Iger agreed to buy the team at a record-breaking $12.5 billion valuation. Hours later, the face of the franchise responded publicly to share his excitement.
With LeBron James no longer with the Purple and Gold, Luka Doncic is now the face of this team. That transition actually began at the start of last season when James shifted his role to unlock Doncic's full scoring potential. The tactical change worked beautifully, as the Slovenian superstar led the league with a solid 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.
Following the Lakers' buyout news, Doncic took to X to voice his commitment to the franchise's new era, penning, "Being a Laker means everything to me, and I'm excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA.”
He added, "I've gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise. I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together."
Initially, Kushner and Iger had not have any plan to buty the Lakers. They were reportedly trying to create a brand-new NBA team in Las Vegas. When they realized they could buy the Lakers instead, they changed their minds and put a massive offer on the table.
According to reports, Mark Walter has agreed to sell his portion to this pair of American businessmen. Walter currently holds a 27% stake in the Lakers, but it remains unclear whether Kushner and Iger will buy that entire portion.
Meanwhile, the Buss family already controls 66% of the franchise stakes. So, Jeanie Buss's role as Governor is going nowhere for the time being because she easily clears the league's required 15% governance threshold.
