It's clear that a new era in the NBA, led by young stars drafted in the last decade, is the direction of the league.
That trend continued on Wednesday, as a former NBA MVP announced his retirement from the NBA.

On Wednesday, Russell Westbrook announced on his social media that he was retiring from the NBA after 18 seasons in the league.
Westbrook was drafted by the Thunder with the 4th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

He became an All-Star in just his third year in the league and, most notably, won the MVP award in the 2016-17 NBA season.
He played a season with the Rockets in 2019-20 before being traded again, this time to the Wizards.
He spent time with the Lakers and Clippers in a two-season span before finishing his career with the Nuggets and Kings.
Westbrook is viewed as one of the top point guards in NBA history, and his record 209 triple-doubles stand at the moment as the most by a player in league history.
He was named to the NBA's 75th Anniversary team a few years ago, meaning he's regarded as a top-75 player at that time.
Westbrook is no doubt a future Hall of Famer who we should expect to see inducted once he becomes eligible in a few years.
