The Philadelphia 76ers‘ NBA G League team is offering fans the chance of a lifetime before the 2026 basketball season.
Philly’s already had quite the offseason after luring NBA legend LeBron James. That move is on top of the team’s epic trade to bring in former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
However, the Sixers’ G League affiliate announced that they’re giving tryouts to players before the 2026-27 season. The Delaware Blue Coats are hosting open tryouts to prospective players for a non-refundable fee of $199.
The unique tryout opportunities will occur on Sept. 12 and Oct. 4 in New Jersey and Delaware, respectively.
Some online skeptics are accusing the team and other G League franchises of making quick money off fans. Although, it’s certainly a rare chance for former college basketball players and others to pursue their professional dream.

The Blue Coats aren’t the only G League team opening up this opportunity for players to tryout though. The Detroit Pistons’ minor-league team recently held their own tryout for a $250 fee that received significant online attention.
Detroit’s Motor City Cruise tryout certainly didn’t display the quality of play that NBA fans are normally accustomed to seeing on gamedays. However, any potential player that advances through the trial phase would certainly become a viral sensation.
In Philadelphia’s case, players that succeed certainly aspire to have the shot at playing alongside Brown, James and Joel Embiid in the future.
At least six NBA G League teams have created their own tryouts in recent weeks, including the Texas Legends and Windy City Bulls. It’s uncertain if any franchises will be able to benefit from the tryouts heading into next season, but it does give the league significant attention before the fall.
