Lakers reporter and insider Dave McMenamin discussed JJ Redick’s future on ESPN’s NBA Today following Bob Iger and Josh Kushner’s takeover of the franchise. Given Redick’s longstanding ties to Iger from his time with the LA Clippers and his brief stint as an ESPN analyst, he appears poised to remain the Lakers’ head coach.
"JJ Redick got an extension after his rookie year as a head coach with the Lakers. By understanding, it aligns his contract with Rob Palenka's and the understanding, I don't think Jeanie has a contract, but the five-year window for her to continue to be the acting governor.
"I think JJ Reddick is probably in a really good spot here. Bob Iger was a Clippers season ticket holder when J.J. was on the team. ... So he's in a good spot. But we'll have to see where all this thing goes."

JJ Redick has been solid for the Los Angeles Lakers since taking over as the team's head coach in 2024.
Across two seasons, Redick compiled a 103-61 record (.628% win rate). He also led the Lakers to back-to-back Playoff appearances, including a trip to the Conference Semifinals last year.
In the end, considering that the Lakers are seeking a fresh start for the franchise following the departure of LeBron James, Redick is slated to keep that trust from the team's upcoming leadership.
