Cade Cunningham is clueless about the emergence of previous reports this offseason that he made efforts to recruit several NBA stars to join the Detroit Pistons.
Joining Sports Seriously, the NBA superstar dismissed claims that he made a recruitment push to convince several players to consider the Pistons as their next team.
“I don’t know where that report came from," Cunningham argued. "I never told anybody that I talked to XYZ.
"I wouldn't say that report was all the way true either, but definitely, I mean, I'm all about the Pistons. I want the Pistons to be at the highest level possible. If there's somebody that is available or wants to play for the Pistons that I could see that happening, and I feel like it's a good fit, it's easy to talk to them about that, as long as I don't get into all the [tampering] or messing with other players.
"I kind of just let our staff do their job. I think other players know the type of game that I want to play, know type of game that the Pistons play, and know the guys that want to be a part of that will be a part of that."
Cade Cunningham recruited Austin Reaves, others to join Detroit?
The Detroit Pistons have notably emerged as a primary opponent of the Los Angeles Lakers in signing Austin Reaves in free agency. Yet in the end, the Lakers retained the star guard in a four-year, $180 million max contract extension.
As such, it was reported that Cade Cunningham was involved in recruiting Austin Reaves. Beyond the Lakers star, Cunningham was also rumored to have pursued Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Kyrie Irving to go to Detroit.
In the wake of their ongoing free agency standoff with Jalen Duren and the departures of Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart, the Pistons have earned themselves a productive offseason. They retooled by acquiring John Collins, Isaiah Joe, Taurean Prince, and Gary Harris.
With Cunningham at the front, the Pistons will look to run it back after their sensational 60-win season to top the Eastern Conference standings in the 2025-26 NBA season.
