Luka Doncic has become accustomed to major organizational changes during his NBA career, and another one is now on the way.
Once the Los Angeles Lakers' sale to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger is approved and completed, Doncic will have played under five different majority ownership groups in just nine NBA seasons.
The list includes Mark Cuban with the Dallas Mavericks, the Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont-led ownership group in Dallas, the Buss family with the Lakers, Mark Walter, and now Kushner and Iger.
Doncic entered the NBA with Dallas in 2018 while Cuban controlled the Mavericks.
That changed in December 2023, when the NBA approved the sale of the Mavericks' controlling interest to the Adelson and Dumont families, with Dumont becoming the franchise's governor.
Doncic then experienced another ownership transition after his move to Los Angeles.
He joined the Lakers while the Buss family still held majority control before the NBA approved Walter's acquisition of the majority interest in October 2025.
The Buss family retained a minority stake, while Jeanie Buss was guaranteed to remain the team's governor for at least five years.
Doncic reacts to latest Lakers sale
Walter's tenure as majority owner is now set to be brief.
Kushner and former Disney CEO Iger have agreed to purchase the Lakers at a record $12.5 billion valuation, only 14 months after Walter agreed to acquire the franchise at a $10 billion valuation. The latest transaction remains subject to NBA approval.
Doncic acknowledged just how much change he has experienced while reacting to the latest ownership shakeup.
"Being a Laker means everything to me, and I'm excited to get back on the court and bring a championship to LA," Doncic wrote.
"I've gotten used to big changes over these last few years, but I know that no matter what, there is no limit to the potential of this iconic franchise."
Despite another transition above him, Luka made clear that his focus remains on building the Lakers into a championship team.
"I look forward to meeting Josh and Bob so we can get to work building something special in LA together."
