Klay Thompson's future with the Dallas Mavericks remains uncertain, with three teams emerging as potential destinations for the veteran sharpshooter.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors all have a level of interest in Thompson as Dallas continues exploring the trade market.
Thompson has been available in trade discussions since the end of May as he enters the final year of his contract, worth $17.5 million.
However, Siegel reports that no extensive trade talks have taken place to this point.
Heat remain most motivated suitor
Among the interested teams, Miami has emerged as the most motivated to land Thompson.
After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier this offseason, the Heat have continued searching for perimeter scoring and shooting around their new superstar.
With Bradley Beal no longer available, Thompson has become Miami's top remaining target.
There are financial complications, however. The Heat have approximately $10.6 million in room before reaching their first-apron hard cap and still possess $8.9 million of their mid-level exception.

That makes a buyout the easiest path for Miami. If Thompson became a free agent, the Heat could offer him most or potentially all of their remaining mid-level exception.
But that scenario does not appear imminent.
According to Siegel, Thompson has not approached Dallas about a buyout, while the Mavericks currently have no interest in simply letting him walk.
Instead, Dallas wants to use his expiring $17.5 million contract in a trade that would return something of value, potentially including second-round draft compensation.
Lakers remain interested in Thompson
The Lakers are another team continuing to monitor Thompson.
Los Angeles pursued the five-time All-Star when he entered free agency in 2024 and was considered one of the finalists before Thompson ultimately chose Dallas.
The connection also goes beyond basketball.
Thompson was born in Los Angeles and has remained open to the possibility of returning to Southern California. His father, Mychal Thompson, spent five seasons with the Lakers and won two championships with the franchise.
A move to Los Angeles would also reunite Thompson with Luka Doncic after the two played together in Dallas.

Warriors would welcome Klay back
A reunion with Golden State also remains possible under the right circumstances.
According to Siegel, Warriors team sources indicated that Thompson would be welcomed back "with open arms" if he were to secure a buyout from the Mavs and become a free agent.
Thompson spent the first 13 seasons of his NBA career with Golden State, forming one half of the Splash Brothers alongside Stephen Curry and helping the franchise win four NBA championships.
However, the Warriors' interest appears more dependent on Thompson reaching free agency rather than completing a trade.
