After 10 years in a Boston Celtics jersey, it will take time for NBA swingman Jaylen Brown to get accustomed to his surroundings. As one of the newest members of the Philadelphia 76ers, he’s still actively adjusting, but the early signs look good for his chances of success in 2026-27.
So far, we still have no idea how this Sixers team will play together or how quickly the players will build up their chemistry on the court. That’s why, for Brown, the work starts now to ensure a smooth transition, establish roles, and develop a game plan that maximizes the team’s performance. While some might see it as tedious preparation, Brown says it’s just part of the process.
“I’m looking forward to every part of the journey, every practice, film session,” said Brown on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “But honestly, the journey kind of starts now. It doesn’t happen overnight, where you can just roll the ball out there, and guys are going to be successful. It takes a lot of work. I’m not losing sleep, but not a day goes by where I’m not thinking about how I can help my team, help my teammates, and make this thing work. We got a lot of talent, we got a great opportunity, and I wanna make it work, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Brown, 29, is determined to make the most of his time in Philadelphia, and he has all the tools to have another breakout season after averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game in 2025-26. But as any expert will tell you, it takes more than one to win a title, and Brown will have to learn how to play with his new teammates before they can reach their full potential. That’s why he’s making a point of setting the tone early and leading by example with his work ethic.
Of course, training camp isn’t scheduled for a few more weeks, and the team hasn’t yet gotten a chance to fully come together. Fortunately for the 76ers, Brown says that he’s already met with a few teammates this summer and has plans to meet with more in the coming weeks.
“Not all 16 of us, but we have hung out in small groups,” added Brown. “I went to Maxey’s foundation, and he had a golf tournament with some of the guys there. I’m out here in LA, and I’m meeting with some of the other guys out here in LA that live in LA.”
Very few teams experienced the changes that Philly did this offseason. After losing in the Semi-Finals, they replaced Paul George, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Quentin Grimes with Brown, Anfernee Simons, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Of course, they also added LeBron James, who raises their ceiling even further.
With those additions, alongside Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid, the 76ers are poised to be highly competitive next season, but it won’t come easily. Even with a roster this stacked, this team will have to put in a major effort for this to work, and that’s clearly not a problem for Jaylen Brown, who has already shown he can win at the highest level.
