Nicol: Mourinho's criticism of Silva makes no sense (0:57)

Kylian Mbappé, Dean Huijsen and Carlos Espí scored as Real Madrid beat Schalke 3-0 in the LaLiga team's final preseason friendly on Sunday.

Mbappé put Madrid ahead after just five minutes in Gelsenkirchen after a defensive mistake, and Huijsen's header made it 2-0 15 minutes later, before substitute Espí added a third in the second half.

Madrid have now gone unbeaten in four preseason games under new coach José Mourinho, and will play their first competitive match of 2026-27 next Saturday, away at Espanyol.

Two summer signings, Ibrahima Konaté and Bernardo Silva, started the friendly game in Germany, with four more new arrivals -- Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries, Espí and Yan Diomande -- on the bench.

Mbappé's opener came after Schalke's Ron Schallenberg passed the ball straight to the France international.

Mbappé went close to scoring another when he shot across goal, before Huijsen leapt to make it 2-0 from Arda Güler's delivery.

Vinícius Júnior had a goal bound shot blocked, and Mbappé was booked for shoving defender Nickola Katic before halftime.

Madrid made four changes at the interval, with Andriy Lunin, Antonio Rüdiger, Eduardo Camavinga and Espí all introduced, and centre-forward Espí soon made an impact, scoring with a header from Álvaro Carreras' cross in the 57th minute.

After an hour, Diomande and Cucurella both made their debuts, with Jude Bellingham -- who only returned to training on Wednesday -- also getting his first minutes of pre-season.
