Tarik Biberovic makes confident statement ahead of Mavericks debut

After eight seasons with Fenerbahce, Tarik Biberovic is ready to take the NBA by storm. The 25-year-old Turkish forward views the move as a fresh start, and states that he will earn a rotation spot through hard work.

Tarik Biberovic is preparing to begin his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks after spending eight seasons with Fenerbahce Istanbul, describing the move as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream but only the beginning of his next challenge.

Speaking to Ceren Aydinonat of Anadolu Agency, the 25-year-old Turkish international explained that reaching the NBA had long been one of his biggest goals.

"This was my dream. I am very happy that I am finally able to achieve it," Biberovic said.

"I am reaching the highest point of my career, but this is not the end; it is the beginning. We will continue writing new stories."

Biberovic sets ambitious Mavericks goals

Biberovic made it clear that he does not expect his previous success in Europe to guarantee him anything in Dallas.

Instead, he plans to approach the NBA as a fresh start and earn his place in the Mavericks' rotation.

"I will start from zero and slowly work my way up through my own efforts," he said. "I want to get as many minutes as possible, demonstrate my ability and become one of the team's most reliable players. I want to build a great career in the future."

The move ends an eight-year spell with Fenerbahce, where Biberovic developed from a young prospect into an important part of one of Europe's leading teams.

Emotional exit from Fenerbahce

Leaving Istanbul was an emotional decision for the forward.

"I was at Fenerbahce for eight years, so leaving was very difficult," Biberovic said. "For me, it was not just a club; it became my family. I believe I will also be representing Fenerbahce when I go there."

Biberovic also credited head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius for playing an important role in his development, particularly by giving him consistent opportunities.

"When he arrived, it was the first time in my career that I was given consistent playing time, and thanks to him I was able to show my talent," he said.

"He gave me an opportunity and also treated me like an older brother, not only as a coach. He was a great player himself and gave me valuable advice. By following it, I developed both my mental strength and my game on the court."

Biberovic eyes success with Turkiye

Despite beginning a new chapter in the NBA, Biberovic also remains focused on the Turkish national team and the road toward the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

"Playing for the national team is a completely different feeling because we are not representing only a group of people; we are representing all of Turkiye," he said.

Biberovic believes Turkish basketball is moving in the right direction following the national team's European Championship runner-up finish and the continued presence of Turkish clubs at the highest levels of European competition.

"Being part of this makes me extremely proud," he said. "Hopefully, we will continue to rise. This is a good beginning, and we are moving along a good path."

"There are still many trophies to win. Hopefully, we will also demonstrate what we are capable of at the World Cup."
