According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, Denver is hiring Dufault as an assistant coach and Vice President of Player Development after he most recently served as Director of Player Development with the Chicago Bulls.
The move represents both a promotion and a homecoming for Dufault, who played four seasons at the University of Colorado before beginning his professional playing and coaching career.
Dufault started NBA coaching path with Lakers
Dufault's NBA coaching journey began with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, when he joined the organization in a video/coaching role under Luke Walton. He later moved to the Detroit Pistons, initially working in the video department before becoming a player development coach and eventually an assistant on Dwane Casey's staff.
He joined Chicago in 2023 and continued moving up the player-development ranks before now accepting the expanded Assistant Coach/VP of Player Development position with the Nuggets.
The move also comes shortly after Chicago found a replacement for his player-development role.
The Bulls hired Jordan Brink away from the New York Knicks as an assistant coach and Director of Player Development. Brink arrives after helping Mike Brown's Knicks win the NBA championship and had developed a strong reputation within New York's staff for his work in player development and replay challenges.
For Dufault, the next step now takes him back to the state where his basketball career first gained national attention. Rather than returning as a player, the former Colorado Buffaloes forward will take on one of the more prominent player-development positions within the Nuggets organization.
