Brandon Demas has been named head coach of the Laketown Squadron, the G League team of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Laketown Squadron

Do you still have hoop dreams of someday making it to the NBA?

Well, perhaps there’s still a chance.

The Laketown Squadron , the G League affiliate for the New Orleans Pelicans, will host a one-day open tryout for local players on Sept. 19.

The tryout will be held at the Pelicans’ practice facility in Metairie from 8:30 a.m. – noon.

Players who try out will have a chance to compete for an invitation to the Squadron's training camp ahead.

Before each season, G League teams hold open tryouts, searching for local talent to add to their rosters. Each team can then invite up to three players from its respective tryout to training camp that fall.

G League teams for the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls have also announced dates for their tryouts.

The Squadron also announced that New Orleans native Javan Felix will be on Demas’ coaching staff. Felix, who played at St. Augustine High School and the University of Texas, has served as an assistant on Loyola University’s NAIA national championship team in 2022. He later became an assistant at UNO.
