Russell Westbrook shocked the NBA community when he decided to retire from basketball at 38 years old earlier this month.
Legendary point guard decided to hang up his cleats after a lone season with the Sacramento Kings where he averaged 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds on 29 minutes per game, playing in 64 matches for the Kings.
As per the report of Marc Stein, Westbrook wasn't fond of an idea to play in a reduced role behind the exciting rookie Darius Acuff Jr.
Kings weren't the only team interested in his services, as the Washington Wizards also offered him a contract.
Marc Stein claims that Westbrook and his representatives "balked at the details of the Wizards offer' which caused Westbrook to retire from the sport:
"League sources tell The Stein Line that Washington made a two-year offer to bring Westbrook back to the nation's capital. Sources say Westbrook — not the team — is the party that ended those talks," he said.
"The 37-year-old apparently balked at the specific terms of the offer and/or the role presented and has decided to stop playing instead," Stein concluded.
