Armani Olimpia Milan have officially strengthened their backcourt with the signing of former NBA guard Garrison Mathews.
The Italian powerhouse announced that it has reached a 1+1 contractual agreement with the 29-year-old, who arrives from the Indiana Pacers after spending the past seven seasons in the NBA.
The 1.96-meter guard brings 329 games of NBA experience to Milan and has built his reputation primarily around his perimeter shooting.
"I'm thrilled to begin a new chapter in my career, and I deeply appreciate the opportunity that Olimpia Milano and its coaching staff have decided to offer me," Mathews said in the club's announcement. "I'm eager to get to work and help the team in any way I can."
Mathews entered the NBA in 2019 after going undrafted out of Lipscomb University.
He initially signed with the Washington Wizards and spent two seasons with the franchise before moving to the Houston Rockets, where he played for another season and a half.
Mathews later spent two and a half seasons with the Atlanta Hawks before joining the Indiana Pacers for the 2025-26 campaign, appearing in 15 games.
Overall, the Tennessee native has played 329 NBA regular-season games and averaged 6.4 points per contest.
Shooting has been his defining NBA skill. Mathews owns a career 38.2% mark from the three-point range and shot 44.0% from beyond the arc during the 2023-24 season, which ranked fourth in the entire NBA.
Before reaching the NBA, Mathews spent four seasons at Lipscomb University in Nashville and developed into one of the most accomplished players in program history.
He averaged more than 20 points in each of his final three college seasons and helped Lipscomb reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history in 2018.
A year later, Mathews led the program all the way to the NIT final.
His run included a 44-point performance against NC State in the quarterfinals and 34 points against Wichita State in the semifinals before Lipscomb fell to Texas in the championship game.
Mathews was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year in 2019 and finished his college career as Lipscomb's all-time leading scorer.
