The Atlanta Hawks have shown interest in bringing back Jonathan Kuminga this offseason, but that possibility now appears unlikely following their key moves in free agency.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the trade acquisitions of Aaron Wiggins and Lu Dort have made the Hawks-Kuminga reunion uncertain.
"The Atlanta Hawks were said to be open to bringing Kuminga back on a minimum deal, but that ship has sailed since adding Aaron Wiggins and Lu Dort in trades with the OKC Thunder," the NBA insider reported.
Atlanta Hawks parted ways with Jonatha Kuminga before Aaron Wiggins, Lu Dort trades
Jonathan Kuminga has entered the NBA offseason as an unrestricted free agent right after the Atlanta Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option for the 2026-27 season.
The Hawks acquired him at the 2025-26 trade deadline from the Golden State Warriors. Kuminga averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 46.3% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc last season.
In a pair of separate notable offseason moves, the Hawks loaded up by first trading two future second-round draft picks to acquire Aaron Wiggins from the Oklahoma City Thunder, and later landing Lu Dort in a blockbuster three-team deal that sent 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks.
Kuminga remains stuck in the market and is continuously seeking his desired contract and role before identifying the next stop in his young NBA career.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers have stood out as the most realistic destinations for Kuminga.
