Newcastle United need to strengthen their squad in the remaining days of the summer transfer window. So far, they have not done nearly enough to replenish the roster following the departures of key players like Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.
So, all eyes are on potential signings. [Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/08/19/barcelona-midfielder-close-joining-newcastle-united/) have recently been linked with veteran players like Joao Palhinha and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. At the same time, it looks like the Magpies have their sights set on Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez as well.
On the other hand though, there are still Newcastle United players who could be on their way out before the end of the summer transfer window.
An offer has arrived on Newcastle United’s table for one such player. And it looks like the Magpies have already made a decision regarding the situation as well.
According to [Spor Depor](https://x.com/spordepormedya/status/2090113680851493065), Besiktas made a €7+5 million offer for Joe Willock. But Newcastle United are said to be asking for €20 million.
It remains to be seen if Besiktas end up returning with something in that region. It is almost twice of the package that they have put on Newcastle United’s table.
Obviously, Willock has been linked with a move away from the club all summer. But has his situation changed as a result of the exits around him.
Newcastle United do seem open to the idea of an exit for the right offer. But letting a 26-year-old Premier League midfielder leave for a €12 million transfer package just might not be realistic.
At the end of the day, you have to look at the experience that Newcastle United have lost in the middle of the park. Should they even entertain the idea of another exit?
Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have been brought in this summer. But both of them have a combined 50 senior appearances to their name.
So, is it the right idea for the Magpies to rely solely on youngsters in midfield? If nothing else, Willock brings some experience in that area of the pitch.
Perhaps parting ways with Willock was the idea coming into the summer window. But after how things have played out, the club seriously need to consider a U-turn and keep him, unless and until they add some proven quality and experience in the middle of the park.
