Newcastle United are determined to retain the services of England left-back Lewis Hall after losing a number of key players during the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have already agreed big money deal that led to the departures of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and club captain Bruno Guimaraes since the end of what was an underwhelming season. There had been concerns former Chelsea academy star Hall could follow the trio out of the door after Manchester United reportedly made an enquiry over the full-back’s availability last month.

Hall joined the Magpies on an initial loan deal during the summer of 2023 before that move was converted into a permanent switch 12 months later. Although the 21-year-old struggled to make an impact during his first 12 months on Tyneside, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and his progress was rewarded when he earned the first of four senior England caps during a Nations League win against Greece in November 2024.
Hall remains under contract until the summer of 2029 after he penned a five-year deal when he joined Newcastle on a permanent basis and there have been suggestions United are keen to agree terms on a new agreement to reward the defender for his progress.
Former Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick has described Hall as ‘possibly one of the best left-backs in the league’ and admitted he is not surprised he is attracting interest from elsewhere this summer.
The former Magpies midfielder told Sky Sports News: “They’ve obviously tried with Lewis Hall and I don’t blame them for going for him. I think he’s possibly one of the best left-backs in the league and you can see why Newcastle are holding on to him. Shaw did play a lot of games last year and I know people say he’s not reliable but he ended up turning out a lot of games - so are they thinking he will do the same again this year and they’re waiting for the perfect left-back to become available? That might be their thinking.”
