'New chapter' - Defender reacts to Newcastle United move after West Ham United exit

Newcastle United have boosted their academy ranks by completing the signing of a highly-rated full-back from West Ham United.

As previously reported, Kyle Healy-Matthews has joined Newcastle from West Ham and has joined up with the club’s Under-18s side for the 2026/27 season.

The 16-year-old was a regular in the Hammers’ Under-18s side in 2026 before Newcastle offered him a scholarship deal. Young players can only agree professional contracts once they turn 17, which Healy-Matthews does in November.

Newcastle have been working hard to boost their youth ranks in recent years after completing the signing of the likes of South Korean youngster Seung-Soo Park, Georgian forward Vakhtang Salia and Spanish winger Antonio Cordero. Ecuadorian winger Johan Martinez will link up with the United youth ranks next summer and another new addition was also completed earlier this summer when 19-year-old striker Afner Ca put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal with the Magpies following spells with Portuguese club Amora and La Liga side Levante.

Newcastle have also signed 16-year-old winger Kyran Thompson, who will be teammates with Healy-Matthews in the Under-18s squad.

Upon arriving at Newcastle, Healy-Matthews took to Instagram to post a series of images of himself signing for the club.
