Brighton players have shown their class by agreeing to cover the ticket costs for the 407 supporters planning to travel to Norway for the team’s Conference League play-off match against Tromso.
The Seagulls are among the teams hoping to represent England in Europe this season, but they must first overcome an exciting Tromso side to make that happen. The Norwegian club impressed in the previous round, although many will expect Brighton to prevail over two legs.
Brighton Supporters Back the Team
Brighton must first navigate the opening leg in Norway, where 407 of their supporters have purchased tickets because they want to be there for the team wherever they travel. The squad have now decided to refund those supporters, with the club announcing the gesture on its website.
The club revealed that the players had decided to refund every fan who purchased a ticket for the match. The supporters will also receive gifts when they meet the team in Norway, adding another personal touch to the gesture.
Brighton captain Lewis Dunk explained why the players wanted to support the travelling fans. He said:
“The fans didn’t know where they were going until the last minute. It’s a long trip for them, last minute to organise.
Players Make Gesture to Fans
“We thought we want to start the season off well for the fans and make a gesture by refunding their tickets as a group.”
The decision highlights the strong connection between the Brighton squad and their supporters, particularly with the fans prepared to make a difficult trip to Norway at short notice. Their commitment to following the team has been recognised by the players, who have chosen to repay them for their support.
For Brighton, the focus will now turn towards the first leg against Tromso. The Seagulls know they face a difficult test against opponents who impressed in the previous round, but they will have the backing of a sizeable travelling support.
The fans making the journey will therefore have an added reason to enjoy the experience, with the players ensuring that the cost of their tickets will be covered. The gesture should also strengthen the bond between the squad and supporters as Brighton begin their European campaign.
With the first leg approaching, Brighton will hope their players can reward the travelling fans with a strong performance and put themselves in a good position ahead of the return fixture.
