**West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is closing in on a loan deal with £18 million obligation to buy move to Aston Villa.**
The Hammers have sold really well this summer – a £60 million package for Summerville, and £85 million for Mateus Fernandes. Even £10 million for Freddie Potts was a great deal financially.
However, the incoming sale of Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t ideal for us. The £18 million fee is decent enough, but the fact we aren’t going to get it till next summer isn’t great.
That’s if we even get it, it’s an ‘obligation’ but we’ve seen before it doesn’t always turn out to be that. If the obligation requires him to play a certain amount of matches and he doesn’t perform, they won’t play him. Just like they did with Harvey Elliott last season, he ended up sitting on the bench or not even making squad’s because they didn’t want to buy him.
If that happens to AWB this would be a disaster move, but after seeing that happen with Elliott I can’t imagine the Hammers would be silly enough to agree to a similar deal, especially with the Congolese international expected to be back up to Matty Cash in Birmingham.
I get why we’ve done it, he didn’t want to be here, Nuno didn’t want him here because he isn’t committed and there wasn’t much interest in the player after having such a poor season last year.
Having that £18 million in this summer would’ve been handy because we could’ve brought another player in, but he’s gone and myself and a lot of West Ham fans are thinking good riddance.
