Exclusive: Wolves interest in MLS hotshot persists as valuation grows amid starring form

Wolves are looking to fight for an immediate promotion back to the Premier League after their drop to the Championship. However, to strengthen their bid, Cesar Peixoto is determined to bolster his ranks with new signings before the summer transfer window ends.

And, The72 understands that Wanderers are showing strong interest in Real Salt Lake City star Sergi Solans as we approach the closing stages of the window.

Championship Roundup

The72 was exclusively informed Wolves and Birmingham City had eyes on Solans in June. The Old Gold’s interest has persisted, but the 23-year-old’s starring form means Real Salt Lake would now demand £7.5m to sanction a sale.

Sergi Solans’ impressive MLS breakthrough continues as Wolves interest strengthens

Solans was in the Girona FC youth setup before heading to the United States in 2024 to play college football. He was selected 30th in the MLS Draft in 2025, and his stunning form since has made him one of the league’s breakout stars.

The Wolves target scored five goals in his first five starts to announce himself in the MLS. Solans has maintained his impressive form and is on a run of four goals in as many games, taking him to 11 goals and four assists in 22 matches across all competitions.

He sits atop Real Salt Lake City’s goalscoring charts, above new Crystal Palace signing Zavier Gozo. His tally of nine goals in the MLS means Solans is now the club’s highest-scoring rookie too.

Solans is currently under contract until 2027 with a two-year option to extend, hence the handsome £7.5m valuation.

The Verdict: Wolves need another striker amid potential departures

Wolves have two dangerous Championship strikers in Adam Armstrong and Raul Jimenez. However, there is a desire to freshen up the supporting cast, prompting interest in Solans.

It has been said that Peixoto is ready to offload both Hwang Hee-chan and Sasa Kalajdzic. It also remains to be seen what the new season has in store for Nathan Fraser, who needs game time after a disrupted couple of years since emerging in the first-team picture.

Solans would represent an exciting new addition to the Wanderers attack. While Armstrong and Jimenez are proven strikers at the level with vast experience to their name, the emerging Spanish star could be the new long-term no.9 for Peixoto.

Wolves have made four new signings so far this summer. Jimenez, Kieran Trippier, Rafiki Said and Jordan James have all bolstered Peixoto’s ranks and Ladislav Krejci’s loan became permanent at the end of last season.
