Departing striker George Hirst says his time at Town was “a spell of my life that I will always treasure” having joined Stoke City yesterday after three and a half years at the club.

The Scotland international signed a three-year deal with the Potters, the clubs having agreed an initial fee of £6 million rising to £10 million.

Hirst, 27, saw the Blues to three promotions in his time at Portman Road having been a key man in Kieran McKenna’s team.

Writing on Instagram, the Scotland international said: “Town fans, Thank you for taking to me the way you did. It’s been a spell of not only my career but my life that I will always treasure. I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this club and this town.

“The memories we created from that night at Barnsley, the three promotions, playing in the Premier League and, of course, that goal against them lot.

“To all the boys and staff that I’ve been with over the years, it’s been an absolute pleasure and thank you for everything. Will always want the best for this club, good luck for the future.”
