Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has given positive injury updates on Benjamin Sesko, Mason Mount and Matthijs de Ligt before the Premier League clash against Hull City. The Reds kick off their 2026/27 campaign on Saturday lunchtime with some big returns possible.

Mount, Sesko and De Ligt have all been recovering from varying issues with the latter duo picking up their injuries last season. Mount meanwhile, suffered a minor problem during pre-season which United have been "managing", according to Carrick.

He said: "We are managing Mason a little bit, but he's very close, so it's touch-and-go for the weekend really, if not going into next week. There's no drama. It's maybe, it's been a week or so, 10 days or whatever it's been. So it's nothing major."

Mount was absent from training earlier this week and despite only being on the sidelines for a few weeks, will likely miss out. De Ligt and Sesko were on the grass at Carrington but may also be omitted having been out for a significant period with Carrick revealing the former won't feature.

The United head coach said: "Matthijs has obviously been out for a long period of time, but he's training, and it's great to have him back. Well, he won't be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction. So that's really a good bonus for us really at this stage."

On Sesko, he added: "Ben is back training. So that's again another positive. Looking forward to having him back around the group and getting him some minutes as well."

Summer signing Karl Darlow has been dealing with an injury but is back training and could be on the bench, while Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton are set to miss out.

As for United's hosts on Saturday, eight players are expected to be unavailable to Sergej Jakirovic including four new signings. Jack Butland, Oscar Zambrano, Joe Gelhardt and Hidemasa Morita all have problems heading into the 2026/27 campaign.

The latter could potentially make his debut having returned to training but is more likely to get his first minutes in the Carabao Cup next week.

Charlie Hughes, Elliot Matazo, Darko Gyabi and Matty Jacob are the Hull stars that were not signed ahead of the new season dealing with injuries.
