Matheos Ferreira has signalled his intent for his first full season in the Newcastle United Under-21s setup after enjoying a breakthrough campaign last time out.
The highly-rated winger caught the eye for United’s Under-18s side when he scored a hat-trick in an FA Youth Cup win against Portsmouth before going on to score four goals in seven appearances for Robbie Stockdale’s second string before the end of the campaign.
Ferriera has worked hard during the summer months and gave some sign of what could come during the new season when he scored a stunning goal for the Magpies youngsters in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer at Spennymoor Town last month.
After kicking off their competition action for the season with a National League Cup defeat at Tamworth in midweek, all focus is now on Monday night’s Premier League 2 opener when Tottenham Hotspur are the visitors to Whitley Park before Fulham make the same journey seven days later.

Speaking ahead of the meeting with Spurs, Ferreira revealed is relishing what lies ahead during the new campaign and revealed the specific area he has worked to improve throughout the close season.
He told Chronicle Live: “I just want to keep going, impacting games and seeing what is to come. I am looking forward every training session, every game and just trying to improve as much as I can throughout the season.
“There are things I’ve been working on in training and the physicality of facing men’s teams is a big help too. It’s been a test but I haven’t felt out of place.
"I’ve been working on my left foot especially, getting in and around the box and trying to get more assists by making the best decisions around the area.”

Ferreira earned invaluable experience within the Magpies senior setup in pre-season when he came off the bench during a friendly draw with National League neighbours Gateshead and the defeat at Championship club Bristol City just days later.
The highly-rated winger reflected on his tentative introduction to life among United’s senior men - and admitted the experience had left him hungry for more.
“It was a good experience to be with the first-team squad at Gateshead and Bristol City and be part of all of that. At Bristol, it was one of the biggest crowds I’ve played in front of and it was a nice experience for me. It just makes you want more.”
