Former Town Trialist Castro Dies After Collapsing During Game

Former Town trialist Quevin Castro has died aged 25 after being taken ill during a friendly in Portugal.
Midfielder Castro collapsed in the 10th minute of fourth-tier Real Sport Clube’s friendly against Primeira Liga side Estrela de Amadora at the Estadio das Seixas in his hometown of Lisbon on Saturday morning.
He was treated on the pitch and rushed to hospital where his death was confirmed.
Castro was with the Blues from the start of pre-season in the summer of 2019 until late in the year, regularly featuring for the U23s and held discussions with the club regarding a one-year contract.
He was well known on the local non-league circuit, playing for Thetford Town, Mildenhall, Leiston, Bury Town and Norwich CBS.
In 2021, he joined West Brom, where he made two Championship sub appearances and one Carabao Cup start.
While a Baggies player, Castro spent time on loan at Burton Albion, Notts County and Gateshead before joining York City in 2023.
A loan spell at Kings Lynn and then stints at Chippenham Town, Cambridge City and Eastbourne Borough followed, before he returned to Portugal this summer.
Bury Town said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of former Town man Quevin Castro. Everyone at the club sends their best to his friends and family.”
