I read a post on X today from a Villa fan saying he was struggling on with whether he should watch the televised match between Hull City and Manchester United. His reason for this was that he couldn’t deal with Youri Tielemans pulling the strings for Manchester United.
I quoted-tweeted his post by saying, “You deal with it by wanting Hull to win.”
I understand why some fans find it difficult seeing their former heroes wearing another shirt, especially when they were among our best players and spent years representing Aston Villa.
Admittedly, I had a terrible attitude towards players leaving Villa years ago, but I’ve mellowed as I’ve got older. These days, I don’t get as angry about it. I simply treat them as the opposition.
I was delighted Hull beat Manchester United today because Tielemans now plays for them. I want Chelsea to lose because of Rogers. I want Arsenal to lose because of Konsa. It’s that simple.
My loyalty is to Aston Villa, not to former Villa players.
We don’t have to wish them all the best. Football is competitive, and their success could come at Villa’s expense.
Apart from a few exceptions, once a player leaves Villa, I hope they fail as player, and their current team they play for, finish beneath us. It’s that simple. UTV
