Tottenham have been linked with a shock move for PSG defender.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will be excited as the club are closing in on the signings of Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush.
Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano has given the ‘HERE WE GO’ for Savinho to Spurs, and the player will soon travel to North London for his medical. The Lilywhites have also reached a broad agreement on a deal valued at close to £70 million plus add-ons for Omar Marmoush.
The signings of Savinho and Marmoush will underline the club’s ambitions to bolster the attacking ranks for a gruelling 2026/27 campaign. With more than a week left in the transfer window, Roberto De Zerbi will want more to beef up his squad. However, Spurs have now been surprisingly linked with a centre-back.
Tottenham could make loan move for Paris Saint-Germain defender
Recent reports have linked Spurs with Paris Saint-Germain central defender Illia Zabarnyi. A departure from PSG after one season is a ‘realistic possibility’ for the Ukrainian international before the transfer window slams shut.
Now, according to Ukrainian website Terrikon, Tottenham want Illia Zabarnyi to replace Cristian Romero in the squad. Negotiations have not started between the clubs, but the North Londoners would be interested in a season-long loan for the 23-year-old.
Romero has left the club to join Atletico Madrid on a long-term deal. The Argentina international was Tottenham’s skipper, and it looks like De Zerbi wants to compensate for his loss by bringing in Zabarnyi on loan despite adding Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke to his centre-back ranks earlier this summer.
Zabarnyi enjoyed a fine stint with Bournemouth, making 86 appearances in all competitions before making a high-profile move to the French capital last year. Despite a fruitful debut campaign, where he won the Ligue 1 and the Champions League, strong international competition means boss Luis Enrique cannot guarantee him regular minutes. This has resulted in the Ukrainian star being linked with an exit from PSG.
From Tottenham’s perspective, De Zerbi currently has four experienced centre-backs in his roster. Add the versatile Ben Davies to the mix, and that might be seen as being enough depth, given that one of Senesi and Van Hecke are unlikely to start ahead of the new captain, Micky van de Ven. And as the Lilywhites do not have European distractions this season, it does not make sense to bring in more central defenders just for the sake of it.
So, the club chiefs can avoid signing Zabarnyi on loan from PSG. Instead, they must look to replace Djed Spence in De Zerbi’s roster.
