Even if a deal is struck to remain at the current 14 events, it’s believed Ipswich is in the firing line to make way for a return of Phillip Island.
Negotiations for PI’s return commenced in the wake of news the Victorian venue will lose its MotoGP fixture to Adelaide.
A lack of government funding is said to be the key reason Ipswich could get the chop, with Queensland already hosting the Townsville and Gold Coast street races.
QR only returned to the Supercars calendar in 2025 following a five-year absence.
The return event attracted a claimed three-day crowd of 51,723 and, while a figure for the weekend is yet to be made available, it appeared another healthy turnout.
Once maligned for its substandard facilities, the venue has been transformed since being purchased by Tony Quinn in 2021.
Its simplistic ‘paperclip’ layout remains, but has repeatedly proven to produce entertaining Supercars racing.
Sprint Cup winner Broc Feeney, who drives for the Triple Eight team co-owned by Quinn, made his feelings felt on Sunday.
“If they’re even contemplating taking this off the map, they’re really silly,” he said in a TV interview played to a strong trackside crowd.
“This is the foreground of Supercars and we absolutely love it here.”
