Plymouth Argyle enter the second stage of the Carabao Cup against Coventry City after they defeated rivals Exeter City in the previous round. Stoppage time goals from Alex Hartridge and Aribim Pepple secured the bragging rights for PAFC against the League Two opponents.
Tom Cleverley’s side have had a relatively slow start to their campaign aside from that victory. The Pilgrims lost their opening League One match to Stockport County and drew 1-1 to Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.

Their opponents, Coventry City, are entering the competition at this stage after they were promoted from the Championship last season. Last term, Frank Lampard’s side made it to the second round of the cup before they were knocked out by Millwall.
The Sky Blues have had a tough start to life in the Premier League. CCFC lost 3-0 to current champions Arsenal and were outclassed for most of the game. However, they have a good chance to get their first win of the campaign on Tuesday night.

“Plymouth Argyle may be getting a sense of Deja vu after their poor start to the campaign. The Pilgrims would have likely made the play-offs last term had they begun the season well, and a win in the cup could get things ticking for Cleverley’s side.
“PAFC are expected to challenge for promotion in League One, and this will be a good test against a side who were extremely dominant in the Championship. Another poor display could see Home Park show signs of frustration.
“Lampard won’t be pleased with his side’s performance on Friday, regardless of their opponent. They must bounce back with a win here to build some confidence for what will be a tough campaign in the Premier League.
“Coventry City should comfortably win this one. CCFC likely won’t be full strength, but they should have enough to get the job done. I just can’t see the Pilgrims being a match for the Sky Blues.”

“Plymouth Argyle have had some big nights at Home Park over the years and will hope for another here. They’ll be eager to put on a show against a Coventry City side who are obviously prioritising Premier League football this year.
“It hasn’t exactly been a fast start to the season for PAFC, especially since the high of a derby day win in the first round. Tom Cleverley’s side is facing more change before the window ends though, so we’ve certainly not seen the best of them yet.
“I certainly won’t count out the hosts but you have to think the Sky Blues have the strength to progress here. They’ll rotate from the opening day loss to Arsenal but should maintain a strong enough XI to get the job done in the second round of the Carabao Cup.”
