Everton in talks to sign Melvin Bard after Nice enquiry – report

Everton have reportedly stepped up their interest in Nice defender Melvin Bard, with talks now claimed to be taking place over a move to the Hill Dickinson.

The 25-year-old had already emerged as a possible target after Lorenzo Jabota reported that Everton had made an enquiry to Nice over his availability.

A fresh claim from French social-media source @dylxnrld has now gone further, reporting that there are “intense negotiations” between Everton and Nice.

The same source says Bard has given the green light to a move to England and is willing to join David Moyes’ side.

There has yet to be confirmation of those negotiations from either club or from one of France’s more established transfer sources, so some caution is required over how advanced the situation is.

Bard could give Moyes another option on the left

Bard came through Lyon’s academy before joining Nice in 2021 and has since become an established member of their first-team squad.

Primarily a left-back, he can also operate as a wing-back or on the left of a back three, giving Moyes another option across his defence.

Bard made 44 appearances for Nice in all competitions last season and remains under contract with the Ligue 1 club until 2028, so Everton would need to agree a fee to bring him to England.

The latest report follows the earlier claim that Everton had enquired about the Frenchman. While that suggests the interest may have developed, there is no firm confirmation yet that negotiations have reached an advanced stage.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Bard is now a name to keep an eye on as Everton consider further additions to Moyes’ squad.
