MIDDLESBROUGH are closing in on the signing of former Leeds United defender Sam Byram as the club's summer recruitment drive continues.
The 32-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Leeds at the end of last season, will add depth and cover in the full-back positions.
Byram was a fringe figure for Daniel Farke's side last term, but was still named in Leeds' Premier League squad on 18 occasions.
He was linked with a return to his former club, Norwich City, earlier this summer, but Boro now appear to be in pole position to sign the defender.

It is understood that the full-back is on Teesside now, putting the finishing touches to a proposed move.
Boro's head of football, Kieran Scott, confirmed on BBC Tees last week that adding cover for Callum Brittain at right-back was something that was on Boro's agenda.
Byram will add vast experience to the squad, having made more than 200 league appearances for Leeds, West Ham United and Norwich.
Scott revealed last week that Boro plan to be "aggressive" in the final stages of the summer transfer window.
It has already been a busy summer on Teesside, with head coach Kim Hellberg having described Boro's business since the end of last season as "unbelievable".
