Daniel Farke’s Leeds United team news for Tuesday night’s quick return to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
Daniel Farke has provided the Leeds United injury latest ahead of Tuesday night’s quick return to action at Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup with a new Whites signing debut chance.
Farke’s side began their second season back in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Forest on Saturday afternoon and the Whites now face another trip to Nottingham on Tuesday night for a second round Carabao Cup tie.
Farke was known to have two players out injured for Saturday’s first game of the new season for which Gabi Gudmundsson and Willy Gnonto were both ruled out with hamstring injuries.
Gudmundsson suffered his injury in the pre-season friendly against Liverpool in America on August 2 and was thought to be looking at around four weeks out.
Gnonto, meanwhile, picked up a hamstring injury in the friendly against Manchester United in Dublin earlier this month, Farke saying at Thursday’s pre-Forest press conference that he was hoping Gnonto would be back in team training soon.
Farke held his pre-Forest Carabao Cup clash press conference on Monday where the Whites boss revealed that Gnonto, Gudmundsson and also midfielder Ilia Gruev were still out.
Gruev suffered a meniscus knee injury towards the end of last season and Farke says the Bulgarian will still need another couple of weeks before he is ready.
Farke, though, also said that the club’s latest signing Nico Elvedi could make his debut in Tuesday night’s cup clash.
Versatile Swiss international defender Elvedi joined Leeds from Borussia Monchengladbach last week and the 29-year-old made the bench for Saturday’s league opener at Forest for which he was ultimately an unused substitute.
“As far as I’m aware there are no new injuries,” said Farke.
“Doctors and physios do lots of recovery tests and not one player is unavailable from Saturday. I expect to have the same players available. If someone is struggling a bit with recovery, we will see but no new injuries.”
Of Gnonto, Gudmundsson and also Gruev, Farke said: “llia was part integrated in the last week and back in full training the last days but this game comes too soon. We want him two weeks back in team training before he’s ready but no reaction with his knee so good.
“Gabi and Willy are not in training but their rehab is going well. I don’t expect it to be too long before they are back in training, perhaps at some point this week.”
Asked about Elvedi, Farke said: “Nico is available, eligible and in a really good rhythm. He played almost all the pre-season games for Gladbach and is in very good shape. He was quite impressive in training so has a chance to make his debut tomorrow. We will take some late decisions but it’s a possibility.”
