Tottenham are keen to end the transfer window with attacking reinforcements.
Tottenham Hotspur look poised for a busy end to the summer transfer window, as head coach Roberto De Zerbi looks to fill more gaps in his squad.
Spurs are closing in on reinforcements at the top end of the pitch, with Savinho nearing a move from Manchester City and Omar Marmoush set for a medical. The decision-makers in N17 are actively working to finalise a deal for both Savinho and Marmoush, with internal confidence growing that an agreement can be fully wrapped up in the coming days.
However, after this weekend’s opening-day defeat against Brentford, Roberto De Zerbi could be spared from asking for more after the potential additions of Savinho and Marmoush. The game at Brentford made it even clearer how badly the North Londoners are in need of a reliable goalscorer.
Tottenham offered late opportunity to sign Crystal Palace star
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, representatives of Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta have approached Tottenham and Manchester United about a potential move.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been keen to leave Crystal Palace for the past 12 months. He came close to leaving in January, when proposed moves to AC Milan and Juventus collapsed because of a knee problem. Since then, the 29-year-old took some time to return to full fitness and scripted his name in the club’s history books by scoring in Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Europa Conference League final in May.
The seven-cap France international started in the Eagles’ opening weekend 2-0 away defeat to Everton, squandering two gilt-edged chances. The 29-year-old is eyeing greener pastures before the transfer window slams shut, but the report adds that Crystal Palace do not want to sell their star striker. The Eagles are ready to risk keeping Mateta and losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2027.
Yet, that hasn’t stopped the player’s camp from contacting Tottenham and Manchester United to gauge whether any late move could happen.
Spurs must test Palace’s resolve for Mateta
Mateta has proven himself in the Premier League, netting 50 goals in 163 appearances for Palace. Overall, he has 62 goals in 203 appearances, including the all-important clincher in the Conference League final. The Frenchman knows where the back of the net is, and at 29, he would be an experienced option to provide a solution to Tottenham’s goalscoring problems.
De Zerbi’s side could do well with having a presence like Mateta leading the attack. He can score all kinds of goals and would be a straight upgrade on Richarlison, whose future remains up in the air. That said, the Lilywhites must test Palace’s resolve for Mateta with a cheeky bid.
