Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi says the Black Cats have been tracking new signing Jules Ahoka for some time after the DR Congo midfielder became the club's third signing of the summer.
The Wearsiders have completed a deal understood to be in the region of £8.6m for the 20-year-old, who has impressed at Royal Antwerp.
Ahoka has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the Black Cats and will bolster their midfield department ahead of their Europa League campaign.
It's been a slow summer for Sunderland on the incoming transfer front, with Thomas Meunier and Dayann Mathalie the only new arrivals prior to Ahoka's transfer.

The club are hopeful of further new additions before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Explaining the move for Ahoka, Ghisolfi said: "Jules is a player we have been following closely and he has shown some very encouraging qualities for his age.
"His performances at the Toulon Tournament demonstrated his physicality, defensive qualities and mentality, while he has also gained valuable experience in Belgium.
"He has huge potential and we believe Sunderland is the right environment for him to continue his development.
"We are delighted to welcome him to the club and look forward to supporting him as he takes the next steps in his career."

Ahoka will wear the number 29 shirt during his time on Wearside and can't wait to get started.
"I am very happy and proud to join Sunderland," he said. "It is a big club with great ambitions, and I am excited to be here.
"I want to work hard, learn from my team-mates and the staff, and continue developing as a player. I will give everything for the club and I cannot wait to get started."
