Sunderland have announced their third signing of the summer transfer window
Sunderland have completed the signing of Jules Ahoka on a long-term contract.
The midfielder moved to Royal Antwerp last summer and has a made a major impression in Belgium in recent months, while also starring at this summer’s prestigious Toulon tournament for DR Congo’s youth side. Ahoka still has just four senior appearances under his belt at Antwerp, but Sunderland believe they have identified a player of very high potential.
Sunderland’s director of football Florent Ghisolfi said the midfielder has ‘huge potential’.
“Jules is a player we have been following closely and he has shown some very encouraging qualities for his age,” he said.
“His performances at the Toulon Tournament demonstrated his physicality, defensive qualities and mentality, while he has also gained valuable experience in Belgium. He has huge potential and we believe Sunderland is the right environment for him to continue his development.
“We are delighted to welcome him to the Club and look forward to supporting him as he takes the next steps in his career.”

Ahoka has become the club’s third signing of the summer after Thomas Meunier and Dayann Methalie.
Ahoka said: “I am very happy and proud to join Sunderland. It is a big club with great ambitions, and I am excited to be here. I want to work hard, learn from my team-mates and the staff, and continue developing as a player.
“I will give everything for the club and I cannot wait to get started.”
Ahoka has signed a five-year contract running until 2031, with Belgian media reporting that the total fee is in the region of €10 million.
