Leeds United look as though they want to bring in another left-winger before the end of the summer transfer window.
Igor Paixao was the name United were frequently linked to earlier in the summer. Those rumours appear to have died down as of late.
Mykhailo Mudryk has since emerged as a surprise name that could end up at Elland Road instead. The Ukrainian winger looks set to leave Chelsea on loan. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the 25-year-old’s preference would be to stay in the Premier League.
Romano has also reported today that United are preparing a new loan bid for Mudryk, with talks still ongoing. Ahead of their Premier League opener against Fulham tonight, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso has commented on the winger.

After not featuring in a competitive game since November 2024 due to a doping ban, if anybody needs to move to a club where he will play regular minutes, it’s Mudryk.
At Chelsea, this does not appear as if it will be the case. Mudryk is currently training as part of a group separate to the first team. This would suggest he is not in Alonso’s plans for the season.
The Spaniard was asked ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage whether Mudryk would be involved in the squad. Alonso’s answer left the door open for the Ukrainian to leave this summer, it seems.
As quoted by The Standard, Alonso said, “We will see. We still have time to decide, and we don’t have to rush on many decisions and at the right time we will take them, at the moment not yet.”
These aren’t exactly the words a manager would use if the player in question was set to be a pivotal part of the squad for the new season.
So with little over a week remaining in the transfer window, every Leeds supporter will be keeping a closer eye on the Mudryk transfer saga.
Mykhailo Mudryk to Leeds United would be a massive gamble – but it may not happen
After arriving at Chelsea for £89million back in 2023, to say things haven’t worked out for him since would be an understatement.
Ask most Chelsea fans, and they’d include him in an all-time starting XI of worst Premier League signings.
Since arriving in England, Mudryk has five Premier League goals and four assists in 53 appearances, with a near two-year doping ban to boot.
During their time at Leeds, the 49ers have been willing to take punts on players who at one stage showed exceptional promise in their careers. Even if it hasn’t gone to plan as of late for them. But signing Mudryk would arguably be the biggest punt of them all.
I can see this signing going only one of two ways. Either Mudryk is incredible for us and shows why he was signed for such an astronomical fee a few years ago. Or he ends up being Facundo Buonanotte 2.0 and rarely playing.
However, Ben Jacobs’ latest report has seemingly poured cold water on the possibility of Mudryk ending up at Elland Road. Jacobs reports that Chelsea have rejected our second offer for the winger, with Chelsea no longer considering us as a viable suitor.
The key to Chelsea’s thinking is said to be Mudryk’s minutes and whether Leeds could guarantee that.
Adam Pope has since come out and said Mudryk himself is keen on a move to Elland Road. So who knows what will end up happening at this point.
Signing Mudryk would be a gamble. However, not signing any left-winger would be a far worse gamble to take from the 49ers.
Whether it’s Mudryk, Paixao or someone else entirely, we desperately need more options in that area, but time is quickly beginning to run out.
