San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO John 'Jed' York was arrested in Ohio on Sunday for misdemeanour charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, according to court records.

York, who is also co-owner at Leeds United and Rangers, was arrested and released later that afternoon on an Own Recognisance (OR) bond.

That allows an arrested person to go free before trial without paying cash bail as long as the defendant signs a written promise to return to court for all future dates.

York appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday and pleaded no contest to both charges.

He was fined $150 (£110) for disorderly conduct and $1,000 (£730) for possessing criminal tools before being sentenced to two days in jail. Court records show both fines have now been paid.

The Athletic claims the fourth-degree disorderly conduct charge was originally listed as engaging in prostitution before it was changed.

The Sun adds that York, who is married, made his plea after those changes to the court work had been made.

The court records also ordered a cellular device be returned to York and $160 be forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force after it was seized, following an agreement between both parties.

The 46-year-old had been arrested at a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Several organisations were involved in the arrest, including The East Palestine Police Department and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

York is the majority owner of NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers, who have ownership stakes in the Whites and in Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

In a statement, the 49ers said: “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
